Pouring the foundation-
Dave gets some manly grunting time as he helps get the plumbing all roughed in so we can pour the cement the next day

Huge loads of gravel and sand were delivered and then spread over the dirt to prepare for the cement slab... then lots of men working, three cement trucks and several hours later

And finally we have a cement slab foundation! Next come the walls and the footings for our retaining wall!

Sewer guys, and construction dudes and cement trucks..OH MY!!!

We thought we would come home from Thanksgiving break to poured footings, but it was not meant to be- the construction powers that be obviously did not want us to miss out on one once of stress so they saved it all for us to deal with when we got back!

We came home to a notice on our door that the sewer people (who our neighbor had called in to see if our lines were ever split to which we found out they were not)were finally coming after 6 months of waiting- a happy accident for us because now we could make sure our sewer line was deep enough and we did not have to foot the bill! We had also made arrangements for our construction workers to use that same side of the house to get the mountain of dirt out of our yard (goodbye California property...it has been nice paying for you!) And our plumbers needed to be on hand to make sure the sewer thingy fit the other thingy at the right angle so the thingy would work- lets face it, its all potty words to me- anyway, what do you get when you have sewer dudes, construction dudes, plumbers and city inspectors all there at once? Well, not a whole lot accomplished, that's for sure! I just have one thing to say to them all- pull up your pants!

Anyway, here is a pictorial of whats going on here at the Hazelwood house-

Here is what the sewer guys did-

and here is what the cement guys did...

and here is where we are now- we had our inspection for the slab and passed, so it looks like they will pour the slab on Saturday! We are moving along!

WE HAVE FOOTINGS!

Been listening to a jack hammer and pounding all day long- scared poor Maya to death and caused her to take a less than long enough nap today (which may be the reason she is in meltdown mode right now...)but this is the end result- FOOTINGS! Jake is standing in one of the trenches and it is almost as deep as he is tall!

This picture is just to make the builder inspector of the family (love you daddy!)cringe- it's a picture of our electrical panel- the people we bought this house from had started a remodel and replaced a bunch of old wiring but never quite got it to the electrical box...can you believe we have lived here for this long with that hassard in our garage??? Stupid, I know- I will never forget showing the house to my dad for the first time and having him tell me we was not comforatble with his grandchildren living here- hmm grandchildren? What am I? chopped liver? What about your favorite daughter named Janalee?

This blog is to journal about the remodel/addition of our Hazelwood House. We are adding 1300 square feet of glorious living space which we desperately need.

This is our house- This picture was taken just minutes before this happened...

The garage is gone and we are underway! When the guys started ripping into the garage I seriously thought I was going to throw up- We are so excited to get the remodel/addition done but it is a huge undertaking with a family of seven still trying to live here as we go. Things are going to be crazy for the next few months for sure.

The one lone semi wall is our current electrical panel so it stays put until we are ready to wire the new part of the house.

This is the back of the house, the porch is gone and they have actually begun to dig the footing and plumbing trenches- if you look close you will see our first accident- a ladder through the kitchen window which is now duct taped- good thing it is coming out in a couple months!
